TURNING POINT OF THE CITY

To give young men the tools to break the cycle of incarceration.

TURNING POINT OF THE CITY MISSION

To give young men the tools to break the cycle of incarceration. The mission of Turning Point of the City is to build community and provide a positive, healthy environment that fosters deep character change for justice involved youth. By working alongside youth as they exit the system, we provide programming to engage youth physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally to identify their goals and help them successfully navigate their community and the education system. We strive to help youth reach their full potential beyond the criminal justice system to become their best selves and avoid re-entering the criminal justice system.

ACTIVITIES

Making A Difference

12-WEEK SPORTS PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

The Sports Performance Program cultivates resilience and persistence in youth with a structured setting. Youth learn the importance of pushing through difficult challenges and following through on commitments. The determination and resilience they learn in class translates into real life situations. Three times per week community sports programming has also been shown to reduce defiant behavior, improve grades and increase competencies, such as self-management, personal accountability, and leadership.

DIRECT SUPPORT WITH EDUCATION & CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM NAVIGATION

The program supports youth as they navigate the complex interactions of the criminal justice system and the education system to provide support, expertise, and advocacy. Youth receive school transition support for academic success, including a Special Education Director to support needs identification and legal counsel to speed placement.

GOAL SETTING, MENTORING, & COMMUNITY EVENTS

After students are stabilized, they identify goals with their TPC Transition Navigator and are encouraged to make weekly and monthly steps towards their educational, professional, and personal goals. As youth advance in the program, they are connected to more and more positive community connections in support of their goals.

"You'll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew, rebuild the foundations from out of your past. You'll be known as those who can fix anything, restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate, make the community livable again."
